About Kelly

Spring 2014, Kripalu

Hi, I’m Kelly, a lifelong educator/learner/ponderer/adventurer who thrives in creative expression–in service. I began journaling as a young adult, stumbled into publication in my thirties, discovered blogging (with a ferocious passion) in my forties, and (fingers-crossed) published a memoir in my fifties. (I still have a few years for that last part to be true!)

I’ve been a classroom teacher, a high school and college writing tutor, a home, life & writing coach and a wide variety of other incarnations, including directing, managing and coordinating a myriad of non-profits and even a large seaside restaurant, once upon a time.

I was first introduced to the chakras through meditation twenty-five+ years ago, but it wasn’t until 2007, during my certification as a Let Your Yoga Dance instructor at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, that my experience of the chakras crystallized. Since then I have studied with renown chakra author/teacher Anodea Judith, and served on staff with the Let Your Yoga Dance (chakra based music, movement & meditation) teacher trainings with Megha Nancy Buttenheim.

I continue to serve as a regular program assistant at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health with presenters such as Dani Shapiro, Jean Shinoda Bolen, Tara Brach, Joan Borysenko, Robert Thurman, Tama Kieves, Julia Cameron (author of the Artist’s Way) and others including a wide variety of programs whose focus is Narrative Medicine/Healing.

In my hometown in the Green Mountains of Vermont, I provide ongoing classes with chakra-based music & movement as well as retreats for women offering in-depth explorations through meditation, creative expression and journaling–both in person and online.

I also work with individuals, non-profits and small businesses to help tell, shape and share their stories. Clients (past & present) include the Worldwide Network of the Experiment in International Living (for whom I continue serve as their designation at the United Nations, and as their representative at the annual Commission on the Status of Women) and  Hits the Spot Yoga where I served as adjunct faculty in a variety of capacities.

I hold a Bachelors of Science from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, graduated Magna Cum Laude, and received the excellence award for the most outstanding student majoring in education.

Most significantly, I am the proud mother of two sons, Aidan and Lloyd (ages 20 & 25), and a life partner of Casey Deane’s for 33+ years (who is a lifelong educator & a Kripalu/Hits the Spot yoga teacher too!)
